Hello LifeRing members,

With the end of June right around the corner, it's time to think about a problem that has developed for LifeRing this year. We're not sure of the reason, but donations are sharply down during the first half of this year. Take a look at these numbers, representing the first half of recent years:


January-June 2015 $11,240.27

January-June 2016 $ 8,828.39

January-June 2017 $ 8,746.00

January-June 2018 $ 6,659.09

You can see that we're down almost $5,000.00 from just three years ago!

Also please note that on a full year basis, after a higher 2016, we fell back down in 2017 to our previous levels. If things continue as they have been thus far, we will fall below that. As an organization, we have only two main sources of income to support our efforts to do outreach and grow our footprint---books sales, and donations.

Of course, as a 501(c)3 non-profit, your donations are tax deductible. Many of us have upped our giving in recent years, as we began to realize that doing so expresses our gratitude to the organization which has made possible our recovery, and in the process not only saved us much misery and heartache, but also saved us large sums of money every week, month, and year that we remain on the sober path.

As an organization, LifeRing rightfully gives the credit to each individual for achieving and maintaining sobriety. We don't advocate a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that our approach has assisted many thousands of folks in making a life-changing, and potentially life-saving, recovery. But it costs money to do the things we do. If all of us who have achieved sobriety donated even a percentage of the funds we're saving while remaining sober, we would be in great shape to continue our mission and expand our reach We often help new meetings get going with free books, and we know from countless examples that this alone has saved many lives. We continue to reach out to treatment centers and other professionals to inform them about LifeRing, but this costs money.

So, to cut to the chase, we're asking for a mid-year donation. Call it the Summer Solstice Solicitation, or 3-S bid, if you will. Whatever you call it, we are asking you to please dig deep and give some a little early this year. Of course, it's just as tax-deductible now as it is at the end of the year.

Due to the lower donations thus far, we had to dip into savings to cover expenses, in the amount of $5,000.00, which is why we're making that our goal for this appeal.
